When uploading pictures here we have to obey german law because the server is located here.
I found this quote about image copyrights on german wikipedia:
"Es gibt im UrhG zwei verschiedene Abstufungen: "Lichtbildwerke" sind bis zum Tod des Lichtbildners und weitere 70 Jahre geschützt, einfache "Lichtbilder" (s § 72) hingegen nur 50 Jahre ab der Erstveröffentlichung."
This means for example when uploading pictures that are older than 50 years we dont have to worry.
So most black and white pictures of famous people seem to be no problem.
Besides that:
- Don't simply use google image search without checking about copyrights, please.
- Try to find free pictures on Wikimedia Commons or on russian search engines, for example.
- Try to use images in the public domain.
