Iceweasel is the program formerly known as Mozilla Firefox in Debian GNU/Linux. Mozilla doesnt want to allow patched versions using their trademarked names [1], and Debian wants to be free to patch (f.e. to react on security bugs being found). Thunderbird is accordingly called Icedove.
Debian benennt Mozilla-Anwendungen um[edit]
Nach Auseinadersetzungen mit der Mozilla Corporation über die Verbreitungsbedigungen der Software wird der Mail-Client Thunderbird in Debian GNU/Linux zukünftig Icedove, der Browser Firefox Iceweasel heissen. Die Debian-Entwickler spielen in ihre Versionen der Programme einige Patches ein und verwenden andere Logos, da die Original-Logos Einschränkungen in der Weiterverwendung unterliegen, die deb Debian-Richtlinien widersprechen..."
