sometimes you get really bothered by webservices like myspace: they won't let you save the sound to your harddrive. even some firefox-plugins like the "video download helper" didn't do their job.
if you use the Alsa Sound System, then you have the opportunity to record:
arecord -f cd -t raw | lame -r -s 44.1 - <filename>
