prologue (;)):
ma: There are two promising free & open collaborative real-time editor projects:
Gobby and Chalks. Both seem advanced, chalks is in pre-alpha stage, xorAxAx said yeserday Gobby works fine for him since weeks already. Gobbys installation is still cryptic to me though. We are close to the point that programmers can work with a collab-editor and integrate it into a wiki-surounding. I'm looking forward to the day we can start using an open software for our tings.
It will then be on time to start on an event like wiki-Woodstock.
It will also be on time to initiate topic-tings on wikilandia or article-tings on wikipedia.
== The differences here to irc ==
Here everything, every correction, every typo, everything is saved (press F7 and slide the right edge of the history bar on the top clicking on it with the mouse). Everything is saved the moment you enter it.
On irc nothing is saved.
Here you can correct yourself and others and you can refactor text.
On irc you can only correct yourself and before you post.

ma: hi Fabi!
F: Moin!
ma: made some fuzz for tings on #de.wikipedia, pretty renitent buddies there :(
Promising efford Gobby and Chalks. I whish so much they were ready yet.
F: I think they won't have much success. We need a standard, not an implementation.
ma: hmpf (*sigh*)
F: Of cause we need implementations, too. But to be widely adopted standardized interfaces are needed.
ma: what seemed to me to be the problem is that monedit ain't open. I want article-tings on wikipedia. Topic-tings all over wikilandia.
F: Yes. Openess is extremely important. And a browser plugin that can handle the links.
ma: well someone would have done it if it would be that easy. I'll make steam. Standards you say, aha.
F: The problem is that the standard is hard to be decoupled from a lot of implementation details. SO you need a good imlementation first - to see everything works.
ma: I understand. It's like the old problem should the band promote the album or should the album promote the band. ;)
F: Then you through it away. Create a standard and start again...
ma: ok. It's different. Starting all over. Took a look at Gobby and Chalks? What you think? I have not the slightest idea. It's all in a technical stratosphere for me.
well.
Obviously there's something wrong with "this band". Poeple do no show up to rehersals. I do not like that. I obviously do something wrong.
F: I still try to get it compliled on my Fedora 3... (Gobby)
ma: cool, stay on it. Used Fedora in the beginning. Now 1. Ubuntu, 2 ubuntu add on cd, 3 apt-get kubuntu desktop (kde).
F: I'll upgrade to Ubuntu soon if things get much worse here... :(
ma: :) I tried around with kanotix knoppix hd installations, after some time there are conflicts when updating. Try chalks too, maybe tomorrow please. :) Community-wiki: collaborative editors is the page to report on them rather than here. Thx btw, you saved this ting. Lion made an excellent page on collab-editors. Did you see it?
F: OK, lets see it I can cheat gooby to run with my version of GTK... libxml++ is missing
ma: rock this nut. Phil (one of the Gobby developers) said for now it runs best on Gentoo.
F: nope. URL?

It's strange. The powerfull, the really powerfull part of this are 12 digit. Strg + E, svsavetxt, return. That's the instant global voice. From that moment on every online soul can read us. That's the most fascinating part of it for me. I love to execute these digits. They give me an unknown sensation of power. I like it.
F: I still think you overestimate the usefullness of the current ME use. As long as the MoonEditing only goes in one direction there is only little gain.
ma: We're restricted to the ''classical mammouth hunting group'' of 14 here on moon-edit. That's ok. But we can instantly turn our text into globaly readable html. Who's really interested can join in. The base for creating global peace is there, sorry for saying it so directly.
F: What I mean is: We can't turn wiki pages back into ME sessions. Because of this we loose the main wiki features: asynchone editing and reediting after a longer time.
Because of this we are not able to structure the text we produce in our tings.
ma: being able to write from wikis into tings. ... Interesting idea. never thought of it.
you meant complete wiki pages, k. another good idea.
F: I already implemented that for MoinMoin but it is still a bit fishy.
