i think, i had a similar problem under fedora core 3 once: every setting worked, but after a reboot everything i changed was set back to normal (meaning muted). |

my workaround was to put "alsactl restore" in some startup script. |

i had to run
"alsactl store" to get it working
after a reboot everything is gone, looking for suggestions ;)
