Moin!

ma: That's cool, I definety, just in this very moment when I heard you tyoe, wanted to turn on the tv set. Thanks. Moin.

F: Is lion already awake?

ma. No idea, Seattle sunday morning. xtof said he'll be around.
What I tought about was tinging and distributed computing. Like the SETI or climateprediction stuff (BOINC). This runs on a permanent basis. Wouldn't it be interesting to try to get it ito a weekly session for some hours? Every wekk people put together a super computer for some hours. Once it's used for this the next time on another project.

F: I have not much idea about super computing. And I don't know any intersting problems that may be solved using such machines.

F: btw I am quite tired and will go to bed soon. I hoped to talk to lion aboutn any implrovements about the machine code block thing.

ma: He pittied you're away before and wanted to ask you things. L i o n! wake up, Fabi is tired! (I love this globe)
The interesting problems to solve with supercomputing - the point. I guess we're not the only ones not to know what to do with them. Finding out in the few hours you can put one together for ain't really easy either. But I could imagine this grows doing it, and starting to create some rythm seems in time to me. distributed-computing-wiki, supercomputing-wiki, flashmob-computing-wiki? A wiki to organize on is the fist step I guess. What other names for it?

I think you have a quite strange understanding of "super computing". I would call this distributed computing or better distributed systems.

ma: Connecting 200 Panther macs and 200 pcs much of a different story? Is it that?

F: The question is what's the aim of connecting those computers. More computimg power or connecting data? Supercomputing means generate as much computing power as possible. I see no connection between super computing and wiki.

ma: sure, wiki would be a place to organize it on, when and what time as essential question. Technical stuff.

F: Doing supercompting just for fun is quite useless. You need an application that males use of your grid. Computing power is not a problem for most applications.

ma: Yes and what for. A nice communty thowing together their harware onecea week and commonly figuring out what application would the session go for next time. There is not much choice right now. People/institutions interested should ask for supercomputing power on the wiki. ;) (a little ;) ). Next wek on Tuesday you have an hour.

Sounds like a boring and senseless project in my ears.

os : hello Fabi & Mattis, hallo Paris!
os : reading your work
Moin OS!

ma: no need reading. I just tried keeping Fabi from going to bed that early. :)

os : what's new on ME? I thought there was a project to make an OSSos ME2

ma: dunno. Didn't talk to Tom for months. Last was he made file lists sortable by name, date size. But we lost the urls for the downloads. I should mail him.

os : inviting Ludovic

ma: there was someone on s23-wiki: moon-edit liberation front reporting on a new collaborative editor, gobby it was called I think. googling gooby... gobby, sry. url comes

http://download.philkern.de/gobby.png on mac only ?

from s23: So people who recode this in free software are also allowed to participate? Well, we are currently developing such a thing. The library handling all the syncronisation is done. The GTK+-Client is currently under heavy development. See this screenshot (http://download.philkern.de/gobby.png) for evidence that we have something working. We could need beta testers and C++ developers helping us with the codebase. Just contact crew@0x539.de (mailto:crew@0x539.de) if you are interested. in Mac only ???does it jump Firewalls ?

os : hello ludo
ld: Hi

ld: there is a new collaborative editor: http://docsynch.sourceforge.net/ based on JEdit and IRC
ld: there is also Sobalipse: http://sobalipse.sourceforge.net/pukiwiki/pukiwiki.php
collaborative editor for Eclipse

os : found http://www.mew.org/~kazu/proj/goby/goby.html.en but not sure it's the right goby

seb : Hi everybody ! Salut Olivier. Salut Mattis. Hi Fabi, i had'nt seen you.
os : salut seb
seb : ya plein de français par ici ;-)
ma: pas encore, mais vous le faites.
seb : on essaie :-)

os : mattis, i'll be in Venedig sometime in May, do you have a nice wiki website where to get info on venedig ?

ma: no not really. My Italian is shabby. And computers and people global kick me more, though Venice is nice here and now. A village though.

os : ok thanks, bye got to get the kids go to bed see you folks

ma: I told 'em on #wiki, #esp, #ud. Shoot a little publicity everybody. I never ever saw the full 14 channels occupied. I'm exporting to wiki now.
