From the 1930s until the 1950s, both Russian opposition (and such Russians "accused" of being part of the opposition) and certain minorities (esp. [[User:Ww|ww]] ([[User talk:Ww|talk]]) 22:57, 10 October 2008 (UTC)+ ::::: Most of what you write here is ok and makes perfect sense. However, you keep repeating that a leak of a CA key means that not only the CA key must be replaced but also the uncompromised keys of the users. To clarify, this let's assume that user Alice uses a 2048 bit RSA key and that the CA uses only a 1024 bit key. (This assumption is of course a little contrieved but I hope it helps to have a more concrete situation here). Now assume further that 1024 bit factoring result is published. This of course means that the CA key must be assumed compromised. And, as you write, another user can no longer verify that Alice's key really belongs to Alice. However, all that Alice has to do is to get another certificate on her old 2048 bit key from a CA with an uncompromised key (e.g. 2048 bit RSA). Alice doesn't have to change her key.+ ::::: I think, all this does have practical impacts. First, Alice's digital signature before the CA key leak can still be verified, once she has a new certificate on her old key, respectively encrypted messages to Alice remain confidential. Alice can get several certificates for her key, and use it as long a her key is uncompromised an the receiver trusts at least one of the certificates. Expanding on this further leads into the PGP model that you already describe.+ ::::: As for changing the text in the article: The offending statement is already removed from the text. Giving detailed explanations of PKI models would be nice. It may even enough stuff for a new article.
